US Navy stopped escorting ships through the Hormuz

A spokesman for the "Pentagon", Colonel Steve Warren, said that the decision was taken after US and British escort merchant ships over several days without incident.

He stressed that the US Navy ships in the region is continuing to do the usual security functions.

The US Department of Defense has announced the start escorting merchant ships last week's decision, after intercepting container carrier Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.
